Canyoneer Photographer ICTC/CAPH

Course Overview

The ICTC Canyoneer Photographer is an ICOpro professional-level training course. It is the first and only dedicated canyoning photography training course in the world! You will acquire photography-specific skills as well as learn additional canyoning techniques. You will also learn about the psychological and behavioral aspect of commercial canyoning photography, allowing you to start a career as a professional canyoning photographer. Establish a photography operation in affiliated ICOpro centers worldwide or work as a freelancer photographer anywhere in the world!

This 5-day practical training course will increase the confidence on your canyoning abilities and also provide you with specific knowledge about photography in the canyons. It also provides up-to-date content on the business and marketing aspects of canyoning photography. This holistic approach is essential for you photography career progression and development.

You will be trained by an ICOpro Instructor Photographer. You will get certified at the end of the course as Professional Canyoneer Photographer.

COMPLETE PROGRAM

ICOpro CAPH course content:

Duration: 8 days

  • Pre-training course e-learning : 3 days
  • ICTC Canyoneer Photographer : 5 days

Prerequiste :

  • Have a current ICOpro CA3 certification or similar canyoning qualification from another organization
  • Have completed the ICTC/CAPH E-learning (online pre-training course).
  • Be in good mental and physical condition.
  • Swimming: 50m and running: 1km.
  • Medical certificate issued less than three months prior to the training course, testifying that the trainee is physically and mentally fit for canyoning activities.
  • Ownership of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera with HD video capabilities coupled with mid-range zoom lens (wide-to-tele preferred)
  • Ownership of dry bag, waterproof case or water-tight system (i.e. housing) for transporting the camera through the canyon (candidate must inform course organizer if unable to provide any of these items);
  • Ownership of canyoning-specific gear, such as harness with CA3 standard equipment, such as carabiners, descenders, hand & chest ascender + canyoning shoes + helmet (candidate must inform course organizer if unable to provide any of these items);
  • Ownership of personal computer, preferably equipped with software specific for photo editing (i.e. Adobe Lightroom / Adobe Bridge + Camera Raw)
  • Basic photography knowledge is desirable but not obligatory
  • Be successful on the CAPH entry tests:
    • 1. Set-up fixed hand line with intermediate point (<4m), set-up a fixed (non-releasable) rappel with rope set >1m above the ground, knot at the end, descend, convert to ascent, ascend and clean both rappel line and hand line from the top.
    • 2. Set-up a retrievable hand line without intermediate point (<8m), set-up a fixed system rappel (not-releasable) on single rope with the rope length set to the ground level, rappel and retrieve the rope from below.
    • 3. Identify their individual camera’s controls & menu settings and make the following adjustments according to the examiner’s request:
      • Shutter speed, aperture and ISO controls
      • White balance control
      • Image format and resolution (JPEG, RAW, Large, Medium, etc…)
      • Video frame size and frame rate
      • Autofocus modes
      • Metering modes

Objective: 

The ICTC/CAPH is an ICOpro professional-level course in which the candidate will acquire photography-specific technical skills as well as further canyoning techniques while learning about the psychological and behavioral aspect of commercial canyoning photography, allowing him to initiate a career as a professional canyoning photographer and establish a photography operation in affiliated ICOpro centers worldwide.

  • You must provide your personal photography equipment.
  • Adventure & Spirit will provide complementary canyoning technical equipment if requested in advance.
