Course Overview

The ICOpro Assistant Instructor (AIN) training course is the first step in ICOpro’s professional framework. This 12-day course (2 days E-Learning / 10 days practical) is ICOpro’s most technical course with 80% of the content focused on advanced canyoning techniques, including valuable rescue and set-up optimization skills. The objective of the AIN course is to provide you with knowledge and confidence so you can assist an ICOpro Instructor during the Canyoneer Initiation trainings, and to be able to have sufficient technical abilities to supervise a group in case of a rescue scenario.

In addition to technical know-how, you will receive initial knowledge on psychology and pedagogy involved in teaching canyoning. This is the core of ICOpro’s teaching program. You will not only become a skilled technician, but also begin to analyze and develop your interpersonal & professional skills.

This training course is available for anyone that successfully completes the ICOpro Canyoneer 1-2-3 course and will definitely step-up your confidence and analytical thinking when it comes to canyoning! Don’t miss out!

Complete program

ICOpro AIN course content:

  • Available for everyone who has reached the age of the majority in his/her country of origin.
  • Be a certified ICOpro CA3 or have attended an ICOpro IVS.
  • Have completed the ICTC/AIN E-Learning pre-training course.
  • Be in good mental and physical condition.
  • Swimming: 50m and running: 1km.
  • Medical certificate issued less than three months prior to the training course, testifying that the trainee is physically and mentally fit for canyoning activities.
  • Have a valid first-aid certificate issued less than twelve months prior to the training course
  • Pass the AIN Entry Test #1:« AIN test of conversion » on single rope (technique of your choice) in a time less than or equal to 5 minutes. Test scenario: 5 meters-high rope, knot in middle.
    Ascent > Pass a knot > Conversion > Descent > Pass a knot. Or
    Descent > Pass a knot > Conversion > Ascent > Pass a knot
    The candidate will not attend the training if the test is not successful and no refunds will be given.
  • Pass the AIN Entry Test #2 « AIN Rescue Scenario » Indirect rope cutting (technique of your choice) in a time less than or equal to 1 minute 15 seconds.
    The candidate will not attend the training if the test is not successful and no refunds will be given.
  • Both test #1 & test #2 should be performed without Security Fatal Error (SFE) according to the ICOpro standard.

  • As a certified ICOpro Assistant Instructor, you will have all the required skills to assist an ICOpro Instructor (IN) during Canyoneer Initiation training courses (CAI) and to assist the IN to manage the logistics of an ICOpro Affiliated Center. The Assistant Instructor helps the IN who is in charge of the excursion; and the AIN must also be skilled enough to supervise the group in case of accident or force majeure.

The training consists in 6 technical and theoretical teaching modules, including analyzing exercise and evaluation (P.A.R), aptitude memory exercise (Feedback) that will be carried-out during the training and 4 Clinic Days of revision and regulation.

  • Module 2: White water – Assistance
  • Module 3: Vertical progression
  • Module 4: Set-up – Rescue
  • Module 5: ICOpro Psychology – Pedagogy
  • Module 6: End of the ICTC AIN

  • The candidate is expected to provide his own Class 1 PPE (full CA3 canyoning harness, helmet, canyoning shoes)
  • Adventure & Spirit can supply additional canyoning equipment upon request (i.e. canyoning wetsuit)
